Add MyLiveChat to your Squarespace site

Squarespace supports MyLiveChat through Code Injection — paste the MyLiveChat code once and the chat button appears on every page of your site. MyLiveChat lets you answer visitors while they browse, capture offline messages after hours, and keep conversation history for follow-up.

Use this guide to add MyLiveChat to Squarespace. The free plan includes one agent, unlimited chats, and unlimited websites — no credit card required.

Live chat setup guide

Step 1. Get your MyLiveChat code

Sign in to the MyLiveChat web console and click Deployment menu on the left. Choose Embedded Chat tab and copy the MyLiveChat code.

Step 2. Paste the code into Code Injection

  1. In Squarespace, go to Settings → Advanced → Code Injection.
  2. Paste the MyLiveChat code from Step 1 into the Footer box.
  3. Click Save.
  4. Open your live site — the chat button appears in the corner on every page.

Check that live chat is working

Do not assume the install worked because you saw no error. Open your site in a private browsing window and walk through this once:

  1. Look for the chat launcher on the page. If it is missing, view the page source and search for mylivechat to confirm the code is really being served.
  2. Start a chat as a visitor and send a test message.
  3. Sign in to the web console and confirm the message arrives and that you can reply.
  4. Close the chat and check the transcript is saved, so you know follow-up will work.

Check the live site rather than the Squarespace editor preview. Injected code does not run in the editor, so the preview is not a fair test.

Common Squarespace setup mistakes

  • The plan does not include Code Injection. It is a Business and Commerce feature. On lower plans you can add the chat code to individual pages with a Code Block instead.
  • The code went into the Header box. The Footer box is the right place. Header injection still works but loads the widget earlier than it needs to be.
  • Only the editor preview was checked. Open the published URL in a private browsing window before concluding anything.
  • Chat looks offline to everyone. That is the offline form, and it is working as intended. Set your hours and your offline message so visitors know when a reply is coming.

What happens next?

After setup, sign in to the web console to answer visitors from your browser. You can also use the desktop app from the download page if your team prefers it.

Want the AI to answer first? Point the AI assistant at your site content and it handles routine questions 24/7, then hands off to a human with the full transcript when one is needed.

Why add live chat to Squarespace?

Squarespace sites are usually built around a single conversion: a booking, an enquiry, or a sale. Chat shortens the path to that conversion by answering the one question standing in the way, and the offline form collects enquiries when you are not around.

Because Code Injection applies site-wide, the chat button follows your visitor across every page and survives template changes.

Squarespace live chat FAQ

Which Squarespace plan do I need?

Code Injection is available on Squarespace Business and Commerce plans. On lower plans you can add the chat button to individual pages using a Code Block.

Will it appear on every page?

Yes. Code added to the Footer injection field loads on every page of your site.

Does it affect my site design?

No. The widget floats above your layout and can be styled to match your brand colours.

Is it really free?

Yes. One agent, unlimited chats, and unlimited websites are free forever, with no credit card required.

Make the chat window fit your site

Colours, position, language, the pre-chat form and your offline message are all set in your MyLiveChat dashboard rather than in your Squarespace code, so you can change them without editing your site again. See customization options for what can be changed, and visitor monitoring if you want to see which page a visitor is on before you reply.
