Add MyLiveChat to your HubSpot CMS site

HubSpot CMS lets you add MyLiveChat through its site footer HTML setting — paste the MyLiveChat code once and it loads on the pages served for that domain. MyLiveChat runs alongside your existing HubSpot tools rather than replacing them.

Use this guide to add MyLiveChat to HubSpot CMS. The free plan includes one agent, unlimited chats, and unlimited websites — no credit card required.

Live chat setup guide

Step 1. Get your MyLiveChat code

Sign in to the MyLiveChat web console and click Deployment menu on the left. Choose Embedded Chat tab and copy the MyLiveChat code.

Step 2. Add the code to HubSpot CMS

  1. In HubSpot, open Settings and go to the Content → Pages area (some portals list this as Website → Pages).
  2. Choose the domain you want to change, then open the Templates tab.
  3. Paste the MyLiveChat code from Step 1 into Site footer HTML.
  4. Save, then reload a public page on that domain.

If you only want chat on selected pages, open the individual page in the editor and use its own Advanced → footer HTML field instead of the site-wide setting.

Check that live chat is working

Do not assume the install worked because you saw no error. Open your site in a private browsing window and walk through this once:

  1. Look for the chat launcher on the page. If it is missing, view the page source and search for mylivechat to confirm the code is really being served.
  2. Start a chat as a visitor and send a test message.
  3. Sign in to the web console and confirm the message arrives and that you can reply.
  4. Close the chat and check the transcript is saved, so you know follow-up will work.

Test on a published page rather than in the page editor preview. Footer HTML is applied when HubSpot serves the live page, so the editor is not a fair test.

Common HubSpot CMS setup mistakes

  • The setting was applied to the wrong domain. Footer HTML is stored per domain. If you host a blog and a main site on different domains, each one needs the code.
  • The page was edited instead of the site setting. A page-level footer field covers that page only. Use the site-wide setting when you want chat everywhere.
  • HubSpot’s own chat widget is also running. Two chat launchers on one page confuse visitors. Decide which one you are keeping before you test.
  • The page was cached. Reload a public page in a private browsing window before deciding something is broken.

What happens next?

After setup, sign in to the web console to answer visitors from your browser. You can also use the desktop app from the download page if your team prefers it.

Want the AI to answer first? Point the AI assistant at your site content and it handles routine questions 24/7, then hands off to a human with the full transcript when one is needed.

Why add live chat to HubSpot CMS?

HubSpot CMS pages are usually campaign pages with a measurable cost per visit. Chat lets a visitor ask the one question standing between them and a demo request, instead of bouncing back to search.

Because the code is a site setting rather than part of a template, it keeps working when you clone a landing page or switch themes.

HubSpot CMS live chat FAQ

Does this replace HubSpot’s own chat?

No, and you should not run both at once. Turn one off so visitors see a single launcher.

Does it work on HubSpot blog pages?

Yes, as long as the blog is served on a domain where you added the footer HTML.

Can I limit chat to certain pages?

Yes. Use the page-level footer HTML field instead of the site-wide setting, or control visibility from your MyLiveChat dashboard.

Will it slow my pages down?

The chat code loads asynchronously after your page content, so it does not block rendering.

Is it really free?

Yes. One agent, unlimited chats, and unlimited websites are free forever, with no credit card required.

Make the chat window fit your site

Colours, position, language, the pre-chat form and your offline message are all set in your MyLiveChat dashboard rather than in your HubSpot CMS code, so you can change them without editing your site again. See customization options for what can be changed, and visitor monitoring if you want to see which page a visitor is on before you reply.
