Pitfalls
Why dealership chat under-performs.
The commonest cause is coverage that mirrors showroom hours. Vehicle research peaks in the evening, and a widget that is dark from six o’clock misses the window in which the shopper was actually deciding. Extending coverage into the evening, or letting an AI layer hold the line and capture the lead, is the single highest-return change most dealer sites can make.
The second is treating a chat transcript like a form fill. A shopper who spent four minutes asking about a specific car and left a number expects the follow-up to reference that car, not a template. Following up after a sales chat and handing leads to sales both turn on that detail.
Measure chats per hundred listing views, the share that produce a contactable lead, and the response time inside your evening window specifically. A dealership can look fine on a daily average while being unanswerable exactly when its buyers are shopping.
